Advanced (Step 2) CONVERT AND ANALYZE
Once you’ve listed or claimed your local business in the major search engines, it’s on to 3 basic areas of Web site Search Engine Optimization (SEO).
- Strategic Planning – defining the right strategy for your business
- Site Evaluation – make sure your site is search engine friendly
- Building Links – get links back to your site from relevant and authoritative partner sites
Before we go there, let’s start with a definition of Search Engine Optimization (SEO):
Your Web site is designed as technical “food” for the search engines so that they can easily determine what your Web pages are about. They “read” the data (your html code) along with the actual words on the page (text/content) to see if they can find a relevant connection between the two. This and many other technical factors help them determine if and where to put you in the search results, and who your audience is/may be.
A word of caution…there are NO quick fixes – don’t let anyone tell you otherwise. If you use ethical techniques that are designed to be acceptable to the search engines, and use an approach that consistently and steadily builds value over time, then you’ll be on the right track and you will succeed!
Now that you have a basic understanding of SEO, let’s move on to the Strategic Planning step.
