Whether you need to build a new site or rebuild an existing one, make sure you hire the correct people to do the job. I can’t tell you how many small business owners (most!) think they only need to hire a Web company to “build” the site.
The roles of the people listed below is who you’ll want to hire for the initial build as well as the ongoing maintenance and improvements for a site that is search engine-friendly and optimized from the outset:
Technology person – makes all the techie stuff work.
Design person – creates the interface you see on your screen (usually the tech guy and design guy are one in the same).
Graphic or Creative person – this is NOT the tech or design person! Just because they can build a site does not mean they have the necessary skills required to make it visually appealing and functional for the end-user. Most tech/design people have limited capabilities in this area.
Search Engine Copywriter – once again, this is NOT the tech/design person OR the graphic/creative person. Words drive action! You need a skilled copywriter to create compelling Web copy. Sites have to make money and the words have to drive action. This person knows how to write and optimize Web pages with a clear understanding of how to get those pages listed as high as possible in the search engine results pages (SERPs) on Google, Yahoo! and Bing.

WordPress Basically a blog building site, but you can add a few pages and create a simple site. The site your using now is created using the free version, WordPress.com. If you want to host on your own domain, have your own hosting and have more flexibility, try the .org site of WordPress. It’s a paid version, but very reasonably priced.
Thesis is an awesome companion to WordPress. It has super simple SEO and design features in a non-techie interface, great support via online forums and video tutorials. This site was built with it.
